Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA)
The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is the Church means of preparing and welcoming those who seek church membership. This process is also known as the Catechumenate. Through prayer and study, an adult is led to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Catholic community. This process is for unbaptized adults, baptized Christians from other denominations and baptized adult Catholics who would like to prepare for First Eucharist and/or Confirmation. Candidates participate in weekly sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Candidates participate in scripture sharing sessions that are held on Sundays during the mass. Sessions are held in the Parish Ujima center.
Non-baptized children or children who were baptized in another denomination, seven years and older, seeking church membership should contact the Director of Religious Education for more information concerning Initiation. The children should enroll in a catholic school or St. Peter Claver Parish Elementary Religious Education program as a part of the child’s initiation process.
